3 Benefits of Daily Performance Reviews

By Studiowide

“Reviews are important for this simple reason; they help drive execution.”

First, let’s start with some honesty; when it comes to daily performance reviews, they can often feel like ‘just another meeting’ and if executed incorrectly, these reviews become a waste of time or an interruption to more important operational activities. Problems frequently arise two to three weeks past the initial launch of these meetings. This is at a point when the team is dealing with the general distractions and challenges involved with getting daily work duties done. The sight of the bigger picture is lost and sometimes alignment begins to wane.

However, if organised and performed correctly, daily performance reviews can be an extremely beneficial and effective part of your business. Reviews are a great way to begin a new working day or week, bringing everybody together to talk through the motivations for operational objectives, how we’re going to achieve them, and what success looks like once they have been achieved.  Everybody should come out of the daily review excited, motivated and ready to get to work.

Reviews are important for this simple reason; they help drive execution.

Regular performance reviews are the backbone of our Brilliant Basics approach. The Brilliant Basics translates ‘effective practices’ into ‘good habits’ which, when done correctly each day, make a significant difference. These are the 3 key benefits of conducting daily performance reviews:

1. Refocus and Realign

The first is that reviews ensure that everybody re-evaluates what they’re working on every day and remind themselves of the bigger picture, making sure they’re doing things that are aligned to get them to that end result. This is a great way to keep teams focused and aligned.

When you look into the subject a little closer it’s important to remember that team managers and supervisors have a responsibility to ensure the team stays concentrated on the things that will move operational goals forward.  This can be a daunting challenge because it takes a lot of discipline and consistency to be constantly checking in with everybody to make sure they’re not going down the wrong path. Team members have to share their top priorities every day with their teammates and leaders –and that’s where accountability starts to be built.

2. Monitor Individual Progress

This brings us to the second benefit of daily performance reviews. Having to share performance with the team makes people want to execute on these things because they don’t want to be the ones that have dropped the ball and that is a strong motivator for accountability.

3. Identify Blockers

The third benefit is for the leader. The leader can watch the team, identify bottlenecks and start removing any blockers that are holding the team back. This will help make sure that they can stay focused on the most important things and that your execution is going in the right direction.
